The Problem of Flooding

This is not Phnom Penh; it's Manila, Philippines. Downpour hits Manila on July 3 that resulted in waist-deep flood. Classes are affected whenever storm hits the Philippines as you can see on the above photo.

If this happens in Phnom Penh, there will be great damage to infrastructure and businesses.  This year, downpour in Phnom Penh has been mild and there was no flooding occurred in the city so far.

People blame nature for the flood when the real blame is to themselves. The real blame is on us. Poor drainage system, too much garbage, environmental abuse of deforestation are among the cited reasons for flooding. All this is not nature problem but the result of people's ignorance and abuse of the environment. 

In Manila, the garbage is the main cause of flood. In Phnom Penh, although poor drainage system maybe the main reason for flooding, garbage is also the major cause. The Phnom Penh City government must act immediately and prepare the city for a better drainage system and a better garbage disposal. To lessen flooding, the whole city must lessen its garbage and must dispose them properly. Even if there is a better drainage and sewage system if people do not dispose garbage properly,  it blocks drainage quickly.
